I can’t believe I haven’t written an entry since last Wednesday. I was convinced I had written a post-Europe blog, but I guess I did it in my head or something. My apologies.
Well, I am back from Europe as you might have guessed. It was a really good trip for me, mainly because I felt like we did some very good work and I get a lot of satisfaction from that. I also met a lot of Champ Car fans in Europe and that’s always a joy. The people are the races were passionate about it. Europe seems to love Champ Car and if the series heads there more often in the near future, they will be received with open arms. At least that’s the indication following this trip.
The Assen track is a thing of beauty, there is no question about it. The facilities are pretty much state of the art. The Grand Stands are interesting because the worse seat in the house is without a doubt on the front straightaway at the start finish line. The reason is that you only see that part of the track and the garages/media center/Timing and Scoring building blocks the rest of your view. It was interesting to see the rest of the area completely packed and yet what would normally be the most coveted seating fairly bare.
The Assen race is exactly what the series needed after the mid-week announcement on Phoenix getting cancelled. The staff in Europe was very down after that news and that race is exactly what was needed to lift everybody’s spirits and remind us that it’s the best form of racing. The podium was a great one too, maybe the most fun of the year given its participant. Each had a great story coming into the race, each deserved to be there.
Now we have a bit of a lull in the schedule. Yours truly probably has to find a job on account of Phoenix getting cancelled. I need to bring home the bacon!
