One quick opine of mine on the dramatic rule changes for 2007. At first, one has to be somewhat surprised by the amount of changes. These are dramatic rule changes, literally changing the face of our favorite racing series. We are leaving familiarity behind and heading into a whole new direction. You can easily justify the timing of these changes, given that the series is going to feel new in 2007 with the multiple new events, teams and of course, first and foremost, the car. The time for change is now and you have to give Champ Car credit for not being afraid of change. They could have fallen back on the old safeguard, but they opted to try something bold and new. Like ‘em or hate ‘em, they will dramatically change the nature of the sport as we know it.
I’m going to tell you why, generally speaking, I like these changes as a whole. Its quite simple actually. It separates Champ Car from the IRL. It gives Champ Car its own identity in America. Right now, with the IRL adding more and more street/road courses to their schedule, it must be almost impossible for the average American to tell them apart. I’m talking about the average American, not the diehard race fans. Timed races will give Champ Car its own identity. Standing Starts will be unique to Champ Cars in America. With unification seemingly less and less likely, it’s important for Champ Car to get its own identity. These are big steps towards achieving that goal. I commend Champ Car for taking that step.
We’ll talk some more about these changes. Let me know what YOU think.

Eh. I'm kinda nutural about it. Some of the rules I like, others I'm not too fond of. Although I think it's great that we're seperating ourselves from the IRL, they're DRAMATICALLY changing what's been working for us. Of course, things can always improve, no arguement there. However, I'm now starting to get word of things they're going to be changing in the pits, and I kinda have to sit back what wonder "what the heck?" Like Pit Officials no longer being directly in the pits but instead of being on the other side of the wall with the wallmen im-ing race control with their PDAs? uh.... wha--??
But hey, if they think it's good for the series, then I'm right there with them.
Standing starts are going to be fun to watch. First of all, CC will need to have a standard camera angle to get video evidence of jumped starts. When that fails, in ground sensors will be next. Sounds like an eventual jump to F1- like status for CC. However, this may take a couple of years to materialize.
RC and the Teams have been using the IM system over the last year. The Pit Officials on the other side of the wall will be using the PDA's for informational purposes on their part.
I think this will be great for the series. It will separate Champ Car from IRL. I love the timed races becuse you will never know who will win. It will keep fans into the action the whole race. The best team might not always win because it could come down to how you manage your fule.
The standing starts will be something to see. I can't wait to see it in cleveland. It will be one for the record book. It will be intersting in 2007 & I CAN'T WAIT
