Oh Paul, you devil.

Well, it appears as if Paul Tracy’s tumultuous season continues as, I am sure you have heard by now, our friend had a couple of bevy’s in Las Vegas and then thought it would be a good idea to test out a golf cart’s aerial abilities. And, as a result, hurt his shoulder and may miss (though we’ll see) the race in Mexico this weekend. The story came out not too long ago and its been all over the place, including on speedtv and my network, Sportsnet, where our anchor asked the viewers to raise their hand if they had ever acted like a jackass and then proceeding to add PT to that list as a result of his accident. It was an attempt at humor because when it’s all said and done, this story is funny. There is no other way around it. No matter that its PT or the President, it’s a funny story. A relatable story no less, since we’ve all done stupid things in our lives. I think the fact that he included alcohol in his statement was a mistake, because it leads you to think that they wouldn’t act this way sober. That is naïve. Boys will be boys and boys with their toys will act stupidly, with or without the aid of alcohol. Granted you are MORE likely to act stupid with a few bevy’s in your system, but it’s certainly not the only determining factor in your behavior. PT or any other rich, celebrity athlete have most material things at their disposal and know how to have a good time. When they add alcohol things can get out of hand. But things often get out of hand without alcohol anyway.
I say good for him to admitting it right away, not sugarcoating anything and admitting it was a mistake and a dumb thing to do. Like most of what PT does, this is a refreshing statement in this day of political correctness. Still, it would be a shame if he missed the final race of the season. A shame for the fans really. But, he could have had an accident any other way or we’d be sympathizing with him had he told us he was ‘playing tennis’ when he hurt his shoulder.

Stoddart buying RuSport is a pretty big news story, if in fact true. I have heard nothing that you have or haven’t, except that exact statement above. Honestly, if there is a team to purchase in Champ Car, wouldn’t RuSport be in the top 3? How could Paul say no to such an opportunity. Having said that, it would be a shame if Carl Russo left the series because of his passion, which has been displayed in public and in private. The man is an innovator and he’s nothing but an asset to the Champ Car World Series. Definitely the type of person you say ‘I’m glad he’s on our side’. We’ll see how this rumor plays out. I wouldn’t hold my breath. But, if, as rumored that Carl has some new business venture in Europe and he is forced to sell it, then Stoddart is getting a pretty good deal.
